aimco funds dirty pipelines and indigenous injustice
On Dec 26, 2019, it was announced that pension fund manager Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) was to purchase a 65% equity share in the Coastal GasLink Pipeline from TC Energy, alongside global investment firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & co. (KKR). These two major funders of the Coastal GasLink Pipeline have blood on their hands. By investing in this project, AIMCo undermines Indigenous sovereignty, and is complicit in the illegal invasion of unceded, unsurrended Wet’suwet’en territory at the hands of the RCMP and CGL. Despite a global pandemic, international solidarity calling for the halting of all construction, and an eviction notice by Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs, CGL and the RCMP continue to illegally occupy Wet’suwet’en land. The goal of this online action is to force AIMCo to divest from the pipeline and cease funding, keeping pressure on the financial supporters of this project. We will flood their inboxes and phone lines, letting them know that all across the globe we will continue to fight in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en: This pipeline will never be built!
